GRM demands stoppage of grants to 130 schools that changed medium to English

PANJIM: Former Get Well Soon in its new avatar as Goa Rakhann Manch and backed by prominent members of the BBSM members has demanded that government stop grants to the 130 schools that had changed their medium to English “illegally” two years back.
“Creating a category of minority schools makes the government’s intention clear that it is a vulgar political compromise,” said the manch addressing a press conference in the presence of BBSM members Pundalik Naik, Fr Mousinho Athaide, Naguesh Karmali and Pandurang Nadkarni.
Arguing that the chief minister Manohar Parrikar has betrayed the popular mandate that he had received, the NGO alleged that despite the consultative committee on the MoI in goa reaffirming that the medium of instruction in schools particularly at the primary stage should be in the mother tongue, the cabinet went ahead and legalized state-sponsored education in English. “Parrikar has completely snubbed the decision of the consultative committee which was formed to decide on the medium of instruction issue,” the Manch alleged arguing that this is a very serious issue as far as the education scenario is concerned.
