President Pratibha Patil will inaugurate the Maharashtra Judicial Academy, located at Uttan, near Bhayandar, in Thane district, on Saturday. Set up to offer training and refresher courses to Judges, it also houses the Indian Mediation Centre and Training Institute. The foundation stone of the Maharashtra Judicial Academy was laid by Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishanan in December 2007.
The current strength of Judicial Officers in the sub-ordinate judiciary of Maharashtra and Goa, which comes under the Bombay High Court, is 1,957. Five hundred more judicial officers are likely to be recruited shortly, an official release said.
