Davorlim leave it late to move into semis

MARGAO: Sporting Club of Davorlim edged past Ambelim Sports Club 4-3 via the tie-breaker to move into the semi-finals of 26th Super Soccer football tournament organised by United Boys Dando, Colva, at St John the Baptist ground, on Tuesday.

At the end of regulation time, both the teams failed to score.
Ambelim early in the 4th minute would have taken the lead but Nial Cardoza’s header was not on target after Samson Fernandes assisted.
Davorlim also missed their chance in the 8th minute when Meclon Colaco’s ground shot was easily collected by Ambelim custodian. Joel Furtado provided the cross.
In the 11th minute, Ambelim again failed to score. Donald Rocha’s curling shot was brilliantly fisted away by the Davorlim goalkeeper.
Post resumption, both the teams tried to overpower each other and score goals but their defence played a crucial role in avoiding the threats.
For Ambelim in the 40th minute, Donald again was the culprit as he missed the second chance to score by heading wide.
Davorlim also tried hard but Andrew Colaco’s ground shot in the 50th minute off an assist by Joel Furtado went out. In the 55th minute, Ambelim’s last attempt was also foiled as Nial Cardozo’s move was thwarted by Davorlim defence.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Davorlim converted through Brian Furtado, Meclon Colaco, Hasten Gomes and Benson Gomes while Blasco Fernandes, Nial Cardoza and Lesly Fernandes were on target for Ambelim.
