VASCO: Stating that he wants to make Vasco the first plastic-free town in the State, Vasco MLA and KTC Chairman Carlos Almeida on Thursday said he has already started distributing bins for separate collection of dry and wet waste in his ward at New Vaddem.
Almeida was speaking after inaugurating the interlocking pavers laid at the assembly ground of Our Lady of Candelaria High School in the presence of School Principal Fr Vital Miranda, Headmistress Ramila Barros, members of PTA and Confraria of Our Lady of Candelaria Church, Baina.
Speaking further, he said before the end of the year, he wants to cover other wards of the city. He also urged the students to keep their surrounding clean.
While commenting on the delay of monsoon season and less rainfall, Almeida attributed it to cutting of trees in large numbers. “Due to cutting of trees in large numbers, the climatic conditions have changed which has affected our environment. We must grow more trees he said.
While highlighting the ill effects of plastic, Almeida urged the students not to use plastic and requested them to pass on the message to their parents and neighbours.
Almeida assured his assistance and cooperation to the school for the betterment of the students and staff.
Fr Miranda thanked Almeida for his kind gesture of laying the interlocking pavers at the school assembly ground. Headmistress Ramila Barros also spoke on the occasion.
