Speaking to the media after inaugurating three power transformers in Velim constituency in the presence of local MLA Benjamin D’Silva, Chief Electrical Engineer Lekshmanan, SE Nilkant Reddy, Executive Engineer Santosh Lolyekar, Naik said the government will take up priority areas first while executing work of underground cabling.
“My department has directed all power divisions across the State to prepare estimates for underground cabling of all 11-KV feeders. But the department will take up the problematic feeders in each constituency on priority. The project will progress depending on availability of funds,” he added.
Conceding that Velim constituency is hit by a host of power problems, the Power Minister said efforts are on to address these, while seeking cooperation from the people to streamline the department’s functioning. “My department had sanctioned nine transformers for Velim at a cost of Rs 62 lakh, of which three have been inaugurated today. I will visit the constituency again to hear the grievances of the consumers,” he added.
Velim MLA Benjamin D’Silva said a number of projects have been sanctioned in Velim constituency which have been pending implementation for want of funds. “There are a lot of power problems in my constituency, but we have made a beginning with the commissioning of the power transformers. I have requested the power minister and the chief minister to cover the entire Velim constituency with underground cabling,” Benjamin added.
