PONDA: Ranjeet Prabudesai, an Independent candidate has been elected as panch from Ward No 4 in the byelection held for Veling Priol Cuncoliem Village Panchayat.

Ranjeet secured 448 votes, MGP backed Shreyas Pernekar got 256 votes, Satish Marcaikar secured 43 while Aditya Kamat Panajikar got 54 votes. The Veling Priol Cuncoliem Panchayat is 11-member panchayat.
Recently, the MGP backed Panch Damodar Naik had contested Zilla Panchayat elections and won the Veling Priol ZP seat. Following this, the post was fallen vacant. MGP President Deepak Dhavlikar had declared support to Shreyas Pernekar. However, Shreyas managed to get 256 votes.
According to political pandits former MLA and MGP President Deepak and Independent MLA and Minister Govind Gaude are trying to establish a stronghold on this Panchayat of Priol Constituency.
Currently, MGP is ruling the 11-member panchayat. However, as MGP lost the byelection, the panch members supporting Minister Govind Gaude may try to establish their hold on the panchayat in the near future with backing of newly elected Ranjeet.
Meanwhile, Minister Gaude congratulated Ranjeet for his victory in the byelection.
