PORVORIM: Sandeep Falari and Marlyn D’Souza were elected unopposed as chairperson and vice-chairperson of the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) on Thursday. The 25 councillors were also administered the oath of office by presiding officer and Bicholim Deputy Collector Mahadev Arondekar.
Addressing the press, Falari stated that his first priorities are to take up the ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign and ensure that Mapusa remains clean and green and to ease traffic congestion in the town. He also stated that the new vegetable market would be inaugurated after Diwali, following which all the vegetable vendors will be shifted there.
He further said, “The preliminary work of the Bodgeshwar Plaza project, which comprises of Ravindra Bhavan, a multipurpose community hall, etc, has begun.”
A consultant has been shortlisted and the work order would be issued shortly. The MMC’s administrative block will also be shifted as soon as a new transformer is installed by the electricity department.”
Falari, Sudhir Kandolker and Anant Mishal took the oath in Konkani, while Chandrashekar Benkar, Tushar Tople ,Vibha Salgaonker, Rohan Kavlekar and Jaisingrao Rane took the oath in Marathi. The remaining councilors took the oath in English.
