PANJIM: The Goa State Animal Welfare Board on Friday decided to set up Quick Response Call Centre Veterinary Hospitals and Mobile Clinics in both the districts to provide timely treatment to stray animals found injured on the road.

The decision was taken during the Board meeting chaired by Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Minister Nilkant Halarnkar at the Secretariat, Porvorim. Secretary (Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services) Arunkumar Mishra, Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira Director of Animal Husbandry and veterinary Services and Goa State Animal Welfare Board Member Secretary Dr Agostinho Misquita, Deputy Director Dr Marwin Lopes and other Board members were present.
The decision to set up the Quick Response Call Centre Veterinary Hospitals and Mobile Clinics was pending for a long time even as the department in the past had tried to set up through nomination basis. But now bids will be invited to set up these clinics within next three months.
The Board also decided to set up sanctuaries for disabled and old animals in the State.
The meeting revised the rates prescribed for the cost of transport, maintenance and treatment per day for every class/species of animals that is commonly seized in the State. These animals include livestock (cattle,sheep,goats,pigs); horses, ponies, donkeys and dogs and pets (small animals and birds).
The meeting further decided to grant recognition and affiliation to animal welfare organisations established in the State. Earlier, such recognition was granted by the National Animal Welfare Board. The Board approved three applications to open dog breeding and pet shops in the State.
