Two held by Mopa police for attempting to smuggle over 300 litres of alcohol into Maha

PERNEM: A police team from the Mopa Police Station detained a Maharashtra-registered near Mauli Temple, Torxem, late on Friday night, after they found the occupants were illegally transporting liquor of different local brands across State lines. The seized liquor was together valued at Rs three lakh. 

The raid was conducted at around 8.30 pm on Saturday. The vehicle bearing registration no. MH 07 Q 2424 was moving towards the Goa-Maharashtra border when the night patrolling team stopped it for checking, and found bottles of alcohol packed in boxes in the back of the vehicle.

A total of 300.24 litres of alcohol was seized during the panchanama. Two people were detained, and handed over to the Pernem Excise Department, along with the cartons of seized liquor and the vehicle.
