VASCO: In a freak accident, a beggar who was sleeping beneath a parked car was dragged across a 100-metre stretch when the driver started the vehicle, until passers-by stopped the car. The beggar later died in hospital.
The accident occurred near the Vasco market on Thursday evening. Car owner Jatin Sardesai got into his vehicle and started it, unaware that a person was sleeping under it. He drove the car, dragging the man until he was alerted by people screaming at him to stop.

The beggar, identified as Ashok Chalwadi alias Mungya, was immediately rushed to
the Sub-District Hospital, Chicalim, and later shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Vasco police registered
a case against the car driver for rash and negligent driving,
causing death.
