PANJIM: AICC in charge of Seva Dal, Rakesh Shetty, accused the Goa government of ignoring the demands of thousands of mining dependents, who have been rendered jobless after the ban on the industry.
“This government is useless and selfish. It grants extension to all the off-shore casinos to favour one casino owners and overlooks to the problems faced by 60,0000-odd workers whose livelihood is at stake with no job and ultimately no income to run their families,” he told reporters while supporting a day-long hunger strike by Goa Congress’ Seva Dal Chief Shankar Kirlapalkar at Azad Maidan on Monday.
The workers under the banner Goa Mining People’s Front are on silent protest at Azad Maidan for over three months demanding resumption of mining.
