Realising that long queues cause inconvenience to the voters on the polling day, the Election Commission of India, has decided to increase the number of polling booths by nearly one-third.
From 1000 polling booths, the number will go up to 1338 and all the areas except nine, will have not more than 1200 voters per booth.
The average electors per booth will be only 761 now against 850 -plus. In North Goa, the average is 718 and for South Goa, the average is 805.
As per the electoral roll published in January 2009, 10.18 lakh voters will be eligible to vote. These include 5.10 lakh males and 5.07 females. There is an increase of 77,000-plus voters since the last general election. In the last Lok Sabha poll, the number was around 9.40lakh voters with 4.75 lakh males and 4.65 lakh females.
