PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar filed his nomination for the August 23 by-polls from his bastion, Panjim constituency, on Wednesday.
Accompanied by hundreds of his supporters, including former Panjim MLA Siddharth Kunkalienkar, Parrikar filed his papers before the election officer at around 11am.
Before that he took the blessings of Goddess Mahalaxmi and thereafter visited the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
Speaking to the media, Parrikar said he is confident of his victory by a huge margin. “I am sure that with the support of Ponjikars and Goenkars, and for the betterment of Goa and development of Panjim, I will win by a huge margin,” he said.
Addressing his supporters near Mahalaxmi Temple, he said the cross-voting in favour of the Presidential election indicated that people have high expectations from the government.
“Our political opponents feel that if this government survives for five years, there will be a good change.”
