MARGAO: The department of Public Grievances has ordered an inquiry into the illegal sand extraction and filling of khazan land at Corjuem-Curtorim.
Under Secretary, Public Grievances Fransquinha Oliveira has directed Additional Collector-I, South Goa, to conduct the probe and take appropriate action in the matter and file a compliance report within three weeks. The inquiry comes after the residents led by Domnick Pacheco filed a complaint with the CM and other authorities demanding stoppage of sand extraction and transportation.
Pacheco has said that officials of the Mines Department had earlier this week descended on the site of the sand extraction and attached the implements used for the activity.
The people have now knocked the doors of the power department to initiate action against the electrical connection taken by unknown person near the sluice gate at Corjuem. The citizens claimed that the illegal connection not only amounts to theft of power, but was also causing grave hazard to the farmers and fishermen on account of the unsafe installation.
