TIVIM: Rejecting any moves of the State government to hold panchayat elections on party lines, residents of Assagao have expressed fear that it would create division and destroy peace in the wards.
The resolution was moved by Panch Victor D’Souza and was unanimously passed during the recent gram sabha.
The villagers expressed unhappiness with the local panchayat and the local MLA, after claiming that Assagao has not witnessed development in the last 18 months of BJP rule in the State.
Former sarpanch Pradeep Naik regretted that there had been no follow-up on various resolutions taken, which are just sent by post to various departments, as no improvement is seen in the village.
“Why couldn’t the local MLA make the time to attend at least one gram sabha in the last 18 months since he has been a minister,” asked Naik.
Rodney D’Souza pointed out that in the past, the local MLA would give excuses that since he was in the opposition he was helpless. “Now he is saying that the government does not have funds. Such excuses cannot be accepted,” said D’Souza.
It was also resolved that the ward development committee would go and apprise the local MLA regarding the grievances of Assagao village.
Panch Jallinder Gaonkar admitted that there was still water shortage in his ward and that he was not getting enough electrical fixtures for his ward, while Panch Victor D’Souza said work on the sports ground at Munang was carried out in a very shabby manner and presently, the work is suspended.
Sarvesh Gaad and Jude Dias demanded to close the Assagao road over the hill as a murder had taken place there and it was used for dumping garbage. They sought to know when the main Assagao road will be hot-mixed, as it’s in a very dilapidated state. Deputy Sarpanch Anand Khandolkar replied that the work order was yet to be issued and he was helpless as he has written to PWD.
Other issues discussed include illegal constructions in the fields and on comunidade land, Mahiti Ghar lying unused, grass cutting and clearing of drains, etc.
