MARGAO: Traffic jams along the Verna-Goa Velha road via Cortalim junction have once again become a regular feature with commuters forced to bear the brunt and compelled to spend hours stuck on this part of the National Highway.

Commuters had to face similar traffic jams at the Cortalim junction via Panjim after the flyover ends.
Commuters, who were stuck in such traffic jams, complained that this is a regular feature even on weekends and not only during the peak hours.
Cleopatra Pinto recently shared a picture of her travelling in a bus on this stretch and getting stuck in the traffic for hours and questioned what the authorities were doing.
Several others shared similar pictures of them being caught up in the traffic jam.
A doctor complained that he was late for an important medical appointment with his patient at a private hospital in Panjim due to the traffic jam.
Blaming the new road diversions on the highway instead of solving the problem, some commuters attributed the barricades to the chaos.
“I don’t understand what is the need for all the gate barricades. It’s causing more delays. Open the road further up. It’s just ridiculous! Funnelling 3/4 four lanes into a single approach when there’s ample place for two lanes,” said Bernardino da Costa.
“We can usually cover that stretch in less than 10 minutes but I was stuck for over an hour” said Radhika Naik.
“I was caught for over two hours. This was during the peak time. My ankles started to hurt, I reached my destination very late and there was so much unnecessary waste of expensive fuel as well,” added Vishal Kakodkar.
Traffic Police at the site said they are doing their best and have deployed additional personnel at strategic locations.
