PANJIM: A short-film on a “Visionary Technocrat” in memory of former chief minister late Manohar Parrikar would be the main highlight of the two-day long “Manohar Parrikar Vidnyan Mahotsav” to be held from December 12.
Ten scientists and technocrats will deliver lecture to over 7,000 students and others, during the first edition of annual Mahostav, which is been instituted in the memory of Parrikar. Former defence minister died on March 17, this year.
Chairman of organising committee Jose Manual Noronha told Herald that a three-minute film on “Parrikar — Visionary Technocrat” will be screened during the inaugural function on December 12, to be held at National Institute of Oceanography (NIO).
During the event, State government will also sign two separate Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Central Scientific and Industrial Research Institute (CSIR) and Principal Scientific Advisory to Government of India, to assist the State to organise the annual lecture series, for next five years.
According to the MoU, the CSIR will scout for scientists who will speak to school and college students as part of a series of scientific talks that will include issues like climate change, etc.
The first edition being held this year will see talks by scientists namely Padmashri Dr Ajay Kumar Sood, Padama Awardee Dr K Vijay Raghavan, Dr Shailesh Nayak, Dr R R Navalgund, Dr J Srinivasan, Dr S K Tandon, Dr Ashok Misra, Prof Annapurni Subramaniam, Dr Prajval Shastri and Dr Dorje Angchuk.
Noronha said that apart from NIO, the lecture series would be held at seven other locations in the State including Government College of Sanquelim, Quepem, Pernem, Ravindra Bhavan Margao and Sanquelim.
