PANJIM: Former chief executive officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog and India’s G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant on Thursday emphasised the interconnectedness of various challenges such as climate change, healthcare, and poverty and mentioned that the Global South is more vulnerable due to a burden of communicable diseases and resource constraints.
Kant highlighted that the Covid-19 pandemic has shown how health and climate change are deeply intertwined, with the India’s G20 Sherpa.

He mentioned that India has made significant progress in the healthcare sector and has become the pharmacy of the world, with digital initiatives such as telemedicine and teleconsultations being sustainable solutions for a climate-resilient healthcare model.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has demonstrated how interconnected health and climate are, and how important it is to adopt a One Health approach that recognises the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health,” the ex-CEO of Niti Aayog said.
“India’s G20 Presidency has the opportunity to make a significant impact on global health outcomes and considering the response. I would like this subject matter of climate change and One Health to be taken forward to the health working group and Sherpa Track meeting,” he added.
