MARGAO: Tenants association filed a complaint at the Maina Curtorim police station against Peter Afonso and his workers, accusing him of alleged physical assault and threats.
In the complaint the association informed that the accused dump chicken waste in their paddy fields and khazan lands near the Borim Bridge. “On 23/11/18 at around 8.30 pm, two persons on a two-wheeler carrying a bag full of live chicken waste was stopped by our tenant Constancio Fernandes and Sebastiao Fernandes. When questioned, the persons said that they are being directed by their owner Peter Oliveira to dump waste. The workers warned the tenants of dire consequences saying their owner have good influence with the police and no one can stop dumping”, stated the association in their complaint.
The association claimed that the duo was spotted again the next day and the tenants cautioned the workers again. “However, Peter, who was following the workers on his bike confronted the tenants and started abusing them with filthy language and physically assaulted the tenants”, stated the association.
However, before the association could file a complaint, Afonso filed a complaint in the Maina Police Station where he claimed that three locals from Loutolim, Bostao, Shrine and Costao, assaulted him.
Shrine, who is one of the three accused of assault by Peter, was not at the site when the incident happened. A Panch from Loutolim, Tony Vaz stated that Shrine was with him and that Vaz had got a call from Bostao when the incident happened. Both of them rushed to the site but by that time, Afonso had left the site.
Interestingly, Peter had admitted in the complaint to the police that his workers dump their waste at the toll naka near the Borim Bridge, which is a khazan area and is a violation of the Panchayat Raj Act as well as the environmental laws and rules.
