VASCO: On St Francis Xavier’s feast day, Traffic Police efficiently managed the traffic movement from Agassaim to Cortalim Junction.
A team of 25 Traffic Police from different parts of Goa were posted at Agassaim to facilitate the traffic movement from Cortalim Junction to Zuari Bridge for the devotees who went to Old Goa to celebrate the feast.
“There was a moderate movement of traffic during the morning hours which was mostly of the devotees who went to Old Goa for celebrating St Xavier’s feast. “After 9 am there was not much traffic,” a flower vendor stationed near Zuari Bridge informed.
Police stationed at the Agassaim and Cortalim Junctions revealed that there were no incidences of vehicle breakdowns or accidents which further eased the traffic movement.
When contacted Vasco Traffic Cell Police Inspector Sudesh Narvekar informed that he was stationed at the Cortalim Junction since morning till evening and there was no traffic congestion issue.
PI Narvekar also informed that 20 police constables were deployed from Agassaim Junction to Santran Cortalim stretch at various spots. Besides them, two assistant sub-inspectors and two sub-inspectors were at the Cortalim Junction to regulate the traffic.
When asked about the reason behind moderate traffic despite the feast, PI Narvekar said, “Due to public holiday, workers were not commuting towards Verna and other places.”
