PANJIM: As part of the grants being sanctioned to panchayats across India for improving water and sanitation facilities, the State of Goa will receive Rs 176 crore in tied grants.

This grant is for five years, starting with this FY of 2021-22 and until 2025-26.
This was informed by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, which added that this is as per the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission.
The grant of Rs 176 crore for Goa will be distributed over the period of the five financial years. The State will receive Rs 34 crores for each of the financial years of 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 and then Rs 38 crore for FY 2024-25 and then finally Rs 36 crore for FY 2025-26.
The Union Ministry added that a total of Rs. 1.42 lakh crore in tied grants has been allotted to rural local bodies/panchayats across the country for water and sanitation. It is to be noted that of the 28 States that are receiving these grants, Sikkim will be receiving the least amount of funds Rs 100 crore, followed by Goa, which is receiving Rs 176 crore. Uttar Pradesh is the State that has got the maximum amount of funds Rs 22,808 crore.
The Ministry added that these central grants will have a huge impact on ensuring these services in villages and thus on public health and quality of life in rural areas.
“The 15th Finance Commission tied grants will ensure more funds to Gram Panchayats to make their water supply and sanitation-related plans implemented and Gram Panchayats can function as local ‘public utilities’ with a focus on ‘service delivery. This is a big step towards strengthening the local self-government in line with the 73rd Amendment to the Constitution of India,” said the Ministry in its statement.
