Ritviz wins silver at World Youth Chess

PANJIM: Goa’s Ritviz Parab (2260), Geno Pharmaceuticals, made history for Goa by winning a silver medal in the open category at the World Youth Mind Sports Fair Blitz and Rapid, under-16 category tournament, at Suwon (Korea), recently.

He scored 5.5 point in seven rounds as he defeated IM Lorparizangeneh Shahin (2425) of Iran in the seventh round. Ritviz won five matches as he drew with India’s Visakh NR (2411) whereas he lost against GM Arvind Chitamdaram.
India’s GM Arvind Chitambaram (2505) won the gold medal with six points. Again, Indian chess player Visakh NR (2411) finished third.
In the rapid category, Ritviz finished in the 11th spot with 3.5 points. 
Goa’s WFM Riya Savant (2153) finished fifth in blitz with 4.5 points and stood in the same position in the rapid event with 4.5 points.
In another tournament, at Asian Youth Chess Championship 2015 under-16, Ritviz finished in the fifth position with 5.5 points. He drew with IM Lorparizangeneh Shahin (2425) of Iran.
In Asian Youth Girls Chess Championship under-16,  WFM Riya Savant finished in the sixth position with 5.5 points as she drew with Hu Yu A  (1971) of China.
WGM Bhakti Kulkarni finished 16th with 4.5 points as she drew with WGM Nguyen Thi Thanh An (2227) of Vietnam of Asian Continental Women’s Championship 2015 held at UAE.
IM Vijayalakshmi Subbaraman (2341) of India was the winner with 6.5 points, WIM Hejazipour Mitra (2321) of Iran was the first runner-up with six points and WIM Pratyusha Bodda (2194) of India was the second runner-up.
