PANJIM: CAC members Vijai Sardesai and Sudin Dhavalikar slammed the Congress for the party’s demand for a judicial inquiry into the lathi charge.
“Does the Congress condone the violence?” Sardesai asked. He said that policemen were also injured in the stone pelting and asked who will stand by them. “I feel the Congress demand for inquiry in invalid and smacks of dirty politics,” he added.
Sardesai said that the lathi charge should not have happened but was unavoidable at that moment. “Students were stranded in schools, tourists were inconvenienced as many missed flights and they did not allow even emergency vehicles. Is this not inhuman?” he asked.
He said that the common man has given the answer on the lathi charge as can be seen on social media. “There is outrage against these violent protests and police and administration exercised maximum restraint,” he said.
Dhavailkar meanwhile said, “While a few agitators were injured more loss was to the government. Some 14 to 15 policemen were injured and several vehicles, including fire brigades, were damaged.”
