PANJIM: A foreign tourist who had gone for a swim on Monday evening at Vagator was saved by Dhristi lifeguards from drowning.
According to Dhristi, on Monday evening a foreign tourist entered the water near the rocky portion of Vagator beach and ventured at a distance of 25-30 meters into the sea.
Drishti lifeguard Rahul advised the tourist to avoid venturing into the waters as the sea conditions were not favorable for swimming and to stay where the water levels were lower. The tourist lent a deaf ear to the lifeguard’s repeated warning and continued swimming.
A short while later the tourist ventured into deeper waters and was hit by oncoming waves and got trapped into an underwater current which dragged her 10 meters offshore
The lifeguard immediately rushed to the spot with a rescue tube and a rescue call was placed over the radio. The victim was secured with the help of a rescue tube and brought safely to the shore.
Once ashore, the vitals of the victim were checked put into the recovery position. Upon recovery the victim started facing difficulty in breathing hence her airway was cleared and oxygen was administered. Simultaneously a call was placed to the 108 ambulance and the victim was shifted by the ambulance.
