Residents of Cuncolim have submitted a memorandum to the Cuncolim Police Station seeking immediate safety measures and legal action against officials they allege are responsible for engineering flaws on the accident-prone stretch of National Highway 66 between the Cuncolim bus stand and Demani.
The citizens said the recent death of a retired Cuncolim Municipal Council employee was the third fatal accident reported on the stretch in the last three months, highlighting what they described as an alarming road safety situation.

According to the memorandum, poor road design and faulty drainage are the primary reasons for the recurring accidents. The residents have urged the police to treat the stretch as an accident blackspot and take steps to prevent further loss of life.
The memorandum also calls for immediate intervention by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Public Works Department (PWD) to rectify the alleged engineering defects. In addition, the citizens have sought accountability and legal action against officials they claim are responsible for the unsafe road conditions.
The residents stressed the need for urgent corrective measures to improve safety on the highway and prevent further fatalities.
