NCP candidates enter poll fray

PANJIM, FEB 18: Ten candidates of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) backed panel led by Adv Avinash Bhonsle filed their nominations before the returning officer for Corporation of the City of Panjim (CCP)

PANJIM, FEB 18: Ten candidates of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) backed panel led by Adv Avinash Bhonsle filed their nominations before the returning officer for Corporation of the City of Panjim (CCP) polls scheduled for March 13.
Adv Bhonsle filed his nomination from ward 20.
The NCP panel, which is contesting the civic polls for the first time, had declared 15 candidates and ten of whom filed their nominations today.
Prominent among them was social activist Adv Rui Ferreira who filed his nomination for the first time from ward 26. Speaking to reporters after filing his nomination Adv Ferreira said, “Panjim voters are clever and they will distinguish between candidates who offer drinks and those assuring development of the city.”
Another candidate Adv Aires Rodrigues was also among the candidates who filed his papers from ward 30.
The other NCP candidates who filed their nominations today included Kiran Zambaulikar – ward 1 (reserved for OBC women), Raju Martins ward 2, Sebastiano Barreto ward 3, Alex Felizado ward 6, Sameer Chari ward 18, Neeta Gaitonde ward 19 and Jitendra Keni ward 24.
Senior journalist Ashley Rosario (contesting as independent), who is backed by CCP corporator Surendra Furtado filed his nomination from ward 11. However, veteran journalist Rajan Narayan, who had declared his intention to contest from ward 2, has backed out.
Narayan said he had decided against contesting on the request of Devika Sequiera, President of La Marvel Residents Association. “I will support independent candidate Evaristo Fernandes backed by the La Marvel association.
