PANJIM: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday stated that the FEMA Committee (non) operating since August 2013, has no legal status and hence a large number of Goan origin overseas citizens of India were being unnecessarily burdened with the requirement of obtaining NOC for registration of properties from the committee that is now rendered defunct.
AAP challenged the government to come out with information on the need to go beyond the purview of the FEMA Act applicable across the country and said it was basically done to keep a tab on property sales of Goans going abroad.
Speaking to reporters, AAP Convener Elvis Gomes said that the eight-member committee has not met once in the last two years and is now practically defunct.
“The committee had observed in the last meeting held on August 29, 2016 that there are already set guidelines issued by RBI under FEMA Act as well as the Enforcement Directorate and had recommended that the Law Department/State Registrar office should issue guidelines to sub registrars on handling such cases,” he said.
