PANJIM: With ‘#SaveVainguinimBeach’ trending nationally on Twitter, the valley residents have now sent another letter to the Taleigao Panchayat and Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA).
This letter was sent by the Vainguinim Valley Residents Association (VVRA) on Saturday in anticipation of more permissions being sought by the hotel for work that would concern the Vainguinim Beach. VVRA and others have been protesting against the construction work of a wall on the beach using cement concrete violating CRZ notifications, as confirmed by GCZMA.

Their protests have gained traction across social media platforms. A petition has also started in this regard.
On the new permissions which may be sought by the hotel, VVRA has asked GCZMA and the Taleigao Panchayat not to grant the same until the matter for demolition of the wall is decided and until restoration of the beach to its original condition is carried out.
It may be recalled that the expert members of GCZMA who carried out the inspection last month had suggested restoration of the beach to its original condition and that the excavated beach areas needs nourishment.
GCZMA had issued a show cause notice to the hotel on the basis of that inspection report that had also objected to the use of cement concrete and said the construction is highly detrimental to the coastal and riverine ecosystem and that the entire zone has been designated as a no-development zone (NDZ).
