PANJIM: The counting for State Assembly elections is set to begin at 8 am on Thursday, the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Ballot Boxes, which are kept in the strong room in the counting centre are being guarded by a three-tier security outside the premises.
“The three-tier security personnel are deployed in and outside the premises since the voting day. We have installed a CCTV camera inside the strong room,” an officer said.

While the Central para-military force is guarding the strong rooms, the Goa Police are deployed in the outer layer. “Hundreds of khaki men are performing their duty round the clock,” he said.
The District Magistrate, North on Monday had ordered that Government Polytechnic College, Altinho-Panjim, and the Public Works Department, Altinho-Panjim, shall remain non-functional to prevent any gathering of crowd and any law and order problem from March 7 to 11 in the view of counting of votes scheduled on March 10.
The licensed liquor premises are also asked by the District Magistrate to close “for the sale of liquor” from 00.00 hours of March 10 till the end of counting of votes polled for general Assembly elections. The single phase Goa Assembly elections were held on February 14 and the result will be announced on March 10.
