PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Saturday directed acting principal of Dhempe College of Arts & Science, Vrinda Borkar, to declare the results of 108 First and Second Year BA-BSc students on the scheduled date.
The students had not met the compulsory 75% attendance to qualify for appearing for the examinations but managed to touch the minimum percentage by attending remedial classes. On May 7 they were told by the college management that the examination answered by them was declared null and void.
The students met CM who gave them a patient hearing and called up the acting principal. “Go ahead and declare the results. As Education Minister of the State, I will stand by you,” he told her in a telephonic conversation in the presence of the students.
Sources said that during the conversation with Borkar, Parsekar raised apprehensions asking her, “What if the students take the extreme step?” Sources said that as per GU ordinance there can be no remedial classes in colleges.
