MARGAO: The Goa State Urban Development Agency has submitted to the Goa State Pollution Control Board the preliminary report and minutes of the presentation regarding the scientific disposal of the solid waste dumps at Sonsoddo and Sada. GSUDA has made several suggestions to the GSPCB regarding the handling of the solid waste, plastic and hazardous waste.
Meanwhile, Eco Pro Environmental Services, which has been appointed as the consultant for the dump clearing, has been directed to file a final report within 15 days.
The minutes of the presentation has mentioned several guidelines and directions to various authorities. The Margao Municipal Council and Chief Officer, the GSPCB, and the MLAs of Margao, Fatorda, and Curtorim have been sent the same.
The directions are: The MMC will send fresh garbage to the plant run by Fomento as per concession agreement with the MMC and Fomento. The earth that remains after screening will be disposed at identified locations by the MMC/PWD/PCB or any other public agency and shall be intimated to the contractor, and a lead of 5 km may be taken during estimation for the purpose.
The disposal of plastics, rubber, etc, shall be handled by GSPCB, which shall lift the same at intermittent intervals depending on the quantum of plastic waste and segregate and bail it.
The scientific disposal of the leftover waste of approximately 20 percent of total waste shall be done by constructing a scientific landfill within the Sonsoddo site.
