Interact Club installed at Rosary HS
PANJIM: The Rotary Club of Panjim Mid Town installed the Interact Club of Our Lady of the Rosary High School, Dona Paula in the school premises. Rotary Club of Panjim Mid-Town Milind Shankhwalker, Siddha Sardessai, Vinay Kumar Pai Raikar, Ann Sangeeta Sriram, Ashish Verlekar, Principal Sr Antoneta Colaco and other Rotarians were present. Sriram installed the newly elected interact club president Sian Rodrigues, Secretary Veda Dessai, Treasurer Resha Banaulikar as office bearer. Sian Rodrigues gave the acceptance speech. Co-ordinator teacher Sunayana Shet welcome while Charissa Lobo compered. Veda Dessai proposed the vote of thanks.
CLAPS School students programme
PANJIM: Club Leadership and Personality for Students India (CLAPS) is commencing its eighth batch for school students from LKG to Std X. CLAPS is a one year programme held once a week in the evening in Panjim (Saturday) at EDC House, Margao (Thursday) at BPS Club, Vasco (Saturday) at the Rotary Club Hall and Ponda (Sunday) at IMA Hall. The four major focus areas of the programme are leadership development, personality enrichment, communication skills and public speaking and character and attitude building. All sessions are activity based and focused on developing each member in all four areas.
Bethany Congregation Foundation Day
PANJIM: The 94th Foundation Day of Bethany Congregation and the feast of Mount Carmel was celebrated on July 16 at Bethany Convent, Alto Santa Cruz, Bambolim. The celebration began by singing the Bethany Anthem followed by four hours of adoration by the Bethany Community. A solemn thanksgiving mass was celebrated be Fr Justine SSS, belonging to the Blessed Sacrament Fathers. Sr Paula, the Superior of the community welcomed and highlighted the importance of the day. She also thanked the Parochial Priests and the parishioners of Santa Cruz Church. After the mass a short cultural programme was presented by the pre-novices, highlighting the life of RFC Mascarenhas, the founder of Bethany.
Blood donation camp at Utorda
PANJIM: The United Club of Utorda in association with GMC is organizing a blood donation drive on July 29, between 9.30 am to 1 pm at Utorda hall with the slogan ‘Blood in Time, saves Nine.’ Those interested in donating blood may contact Agnelo Pereira, Jhony Gomes or Praxedes Fernandes.
Activists rue objections to GU RTI module for SYBCom
PANJIM: Goa RTI Forum members and RTI activists in a meeting decided to condemn the objections raised by some principals against the Right To Information (RTI) module introduced in the SYBcom syllabus of Goa University. The Forum has strongly objected to any probable move to scrap the module from the said subject. In addition it also demanded that the subject should be compulsorily introduced in all other courses of Goa University. The Forum strongly feels that if awareness about RTI is imparted to the students in a structured manner through the syllabus then it will lead to a more informed and responsible citizenry. NGO based in Sattari Valpoi – Sattari Jagruk Yuva Munch and Social & Welfare Activists Group Dharbandoda based in Pansulem Dharbandora have also supported the move of the Goa RTI Forum.
Blood donation camp held in city
PANJIM: The Indian Red Cross Society Panjim Branch in association with Panjim Ambulance and Welfare Trust organized a blood donation camp in the city. Gaurish Dhond President IRCS inaugurated the camp. This camp is an annual feature here. The other health activities that carried were out in the camp were eye check up and dental check up. The camp was supported by Inner Wheel Club of Panaji, Giants Group of Panaji and Rotaract Club of Panaji. President of Mukta opticians Mapusa provided machinery and technicians and a team of doctors from GMC conducted eye check up while another team from Dental College conducted dental check up.
Trek to Charvane waterfall
PANJIM: The YHAI Panaji unit will organize a one-day trek to Charavane waterfalls near Valpoi on August 3. The participants will have to carry their pack lunch and water bottle. Tributes paid to Kargil Martyrs
PANJIM: Rich tributes were paid to the memories of those martyred during the Kargil war 15 years ago at a function organized by the State Ex-Cadets NCC Association-Goa (SENA) in association with the International Centre-Goa and Department of Sainik Welfare. Commander 2 Signals Training Centre Goa, Brigadier Harvijay Singh presided over the function. Brig Singh said that a war memorial would be constructed at 3MTR Navelim in memory of Lance N K Sahoo who was trained in Goa and was martyred at Kargil. Secretary, DSW Maj Venugopal Nair and President of SENA Manguerish Pai Raikar also spoke. Dr Nandani Sahai said in all 527 soldiers from Indian Armed Forces sacrificed their lives during the Kargil war. Two minutes silence was observed. John Aguiar compered while Joint Secretary of SENA Sadika Buddashet proposed the vote of thanks.
Monte-de-Guirim PPA AGM held
PANJIM: The annual general body meeting (AGM) of Montede-Guirim Past Pupils’ Association (PPA) was held on July 20 at St Anthony High School Monte-de-Guirim. The programme began with the Eucharistic celebration in the school chapel and thereafter the AGM followed. New members elected for a term of two years (2014-2016) are Headmaster Fr Romeo Fernandes (President), Steve D’Souza (vice president), Antonio D’Souza (general secretary), Joseph D’Mello (treasurer) and Anthony Nogueira as the Auditor. The newly elected Provincial, Fr Dinish Mendonca was also present on the occasion. The programme was compered by Antonio D’Souza while Joe D’Mello proposed the vote of thanks.
