GSUM launched from MMC

MARGAO: The government on Monday launched the Goa State Urban Livelihood Mission (GSULM) from Margao Municipal Council, with Director of Municipal Administration Elvis Gomes asserting that the Mission can be used to solve the burning solid waste management in urban areas of the state through self-help groups.

Incidentally, while many a representative of NGOs working in the field of urban poverty alleviation turned up for the launch of the Mission at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, only nine out of the 20 Margao city fathers, including Chairperson Gonzaco Rebello and vice-Chairperson Dadi Mayenkar, were conspicuous by their presence for the function. Taken aback by the absence of the city fathers, the DMA said the Mission can still succeed even if the councillors present take it seriously.
