PANJIM: Four Curca panchas have opposed the construction of panchayat ghar at St Ana claiming it as abuse of power and position by Sarpanch Maria Leena da Cunha, who, they said, has conflict of interest in the project.
In a letter addressed to the Director of Panchayat and Tiswadi BDO, the four panchas stated that the sarpanch, being an active member of St Ana Sport Club, has passed a resolution to build panchayat ghar-cum-club house at St Ana with panchayat money.
Strongly objecting to the construction of panchayat ghar at St Ana, the panchas said the project was surreptitiously slipped at a panchayat meeting and got the approval of members present. The project was not even listed on the agenda of the meeting, they said.
The proposed panchayat ghar will have ground plus two floors, of which the first floor will be given to the Panchayat and rest to St Ana Sport Club, the panchas alleged adding, a memorandum of understanding has also been signed between the sarpanch and St Ana Sport Club.
“Sarpanch has personal interest in construction of panchayat ghar at St Ana Sport Club,” said Siddhesh Naik, one of the four panchas.
Asserting the construction of panchayat ghar at St Ana as wasteful expenditure as it would benefit only the St Ana Sport Club, the members have demanded an inquiry by ACB-Vigilance into the matter.
