Narvekar drops Chetan from GCA committee
l Fall-out of mistake in seating arrangements for Goa ODI

Goa Cricket Association (GCA) president, Dayanand Narvekar, MLA today dropped Chetan Desai from the post of vice-president, inducted Zamir Carol as joint secretary and carried out two changes in portfolios in the managing committee.
Vinod Phadke (Balu) who was the treasurer has been appointed first vice-president and Amresh Naik, who was the joint secretary appointed as the new treasurer.
The GCA president stated: “In modification of earlier order dated 30th June 2010, following members of GCA are appointed as office-bearers in the following posts from 6th November to 5th November 2011, unless the order is modified earlier.” Vinod Phadke 1st vice-president, Sanjay Kanekar 2nd vice-president, Prakash Phadte 3rd vice-president, Prasad Phaterpekar secretary, Amresh Naik treasurer, Vivek Pednekar joint secretary, Zamir Carol joint secretary and Kishori Haldankar joint secretary.
“Chetan Desai was in-charge of the entire operation while Balu Phadke was in-charge of ticketing. So both have been punished for negligence. Chetan was on top of the ladder, so he has been dropped, while Balu was stripped of the post of treasurer, ” explained Narvekar to Herald tonight.
“It is no doubt a small mistake. But it created a big dent in the image and reputation of GCA, and as such exemplary action was taken,” remarked Narvekar.
Asked why only Chetan, whose previous record has been impeccable, having organised two ODIs in the past on a highly successful note and is known as a straight, no-nonse person who minces no words, Narvekar clarified that Chetan was the director of the entire operation.
Chetan was the chairman of the organising committee, with major responsibilities and bulk of work being handled by the secretary, treasurer and joint secretaries.
“The error was known the previous day of the ODI, but it was taken very lighthly. Action ought to have been taken then and there to rectify the error in the seating arrangement,” Narvekar pointed out.
“The action does not mean that there is lack of confidence. There is need to improve and a fair action needed to be taken. This change is just for one year,” added Narvekar.
“There was a failure and the action will send a message that such things will not happen in the future,” concluded Narvekar.
Chetan was not available for his comments despite repeated calls on mobile.
The mistake in seating arrangement was owned by the printer and the GCA had instituted an internal inquiry into the matter as Narvekar had felt that it was known on the previous day of the match and should have been rectified promptly and not waited for the media to highlight the error.
The office-bearers, subsequently, tendered their resignations to facilitate Narvekar to take suitable action, which he did today.
