VASCO: Acting on directives of the Children’s Court, Mormugao Deputy Superintendent of Police Laurence D’Souza on Saturday relieved PI Suresh Chodankar as the investigating officer (IO) in connection with the sexual assault of the 8-year-old schoolgirl in Vasco.
When contacted, DySP D’Souza stated that the police department has appointed Verna PI Rajesh Kumar to take over investigations of the case.
DySP D’Souza added that Section 201 IPC was also added as per directions of the court and the new investigating Officer PI Kumar will further follow up the case.
Court President Judge Anju Prabhudesai had also directed the Mormugao Deputy Superintendent of police to replace the current investigating officer owing to the legal principle which states that the complainant and IO cannot be the same person.
