NAGOA-VERNA: Ambelim Sports Club blanked Goan Warriors Football Club 6-0 to move into the quarter-finals of the Nagoa Village Panchayat Cup, organised by PAX of Nagoa SC, at Village Panchayat ground, Nagoa-Verna, on Thursday.
With over 200 spectators watching the encounter, Ambelim took the lead in the 20th minute when Perrison Fernandes scored from a distance. The winners led 1-0 at the break.
Goan Warriors began the second half with renewed ideas as they dominated the initial stages of the second half. Goan Warriors’ Saahil Budge and Vishal Salgaocar made inroads into Ambelim territory but the rival defence stood rock solid.
Ambelim Sports Club overcame their domination and mesmerised the fans by increasing their tally with Samson Fernandes netting a brace in the 46th and 49th minutes while Nail Cardozo scored a double too scripting his name on the scorecard with a 50th minute strike before scoring the second in the 56th minute. Perrison Fernandes drew the final nail in the rival’s coffin at the hour mark to make it 6-0, thus completing his brace. Ambelim SC will meet the winners of Parish Youth Nuvem and Sporting Club Davorlim in the quarter-finals on April 21
