Portugal is the beautiful place with beautiful people and beautiful language but for a Goan like me it is not as beautiful as my Goa but unfortunately people like Naguesh Karmali and company spoil the beauty of open-minded multi- cultured Goans by making such ugly statements.
In no way Portugal benefits by offering the Portugal citizenship to Goans born prior to liberation but I would say many Goans got benefitted with the offer. Thousands of Goans made the best use of the said offer and are making a decent living all around Europe and they are grateful to Portugal. Many of them must have even surrendered their Indian nationality in exchange of decent employment and that doesn’t mean they are anti-nationals. Thousands of Goans must have left Goa physically in search of better living but their hearts are still in Goa.
If India should snap all ties with Portugal according to the so-called freedom fighter Naguesh Karmali, why should India keep ties with British? Was India not ruled by British? Is Naguesh Karmali aware that thousands of Indians including reasonable number of Gujratis and not just Goans are settled in British? Are they anti-nationals too? Is Nagesh Karmali aware that there still exist sign boards in French language at Pondichery? But fortunately there are no Nagesh Karmalis in Pondichery.
Is Nagesh and company aware that Portugal has returned back Goa’s gold to Goa? Where is the returned gold gone Mr Karmali? Why you never made that as an issue? If Goans who have obtained Portuguese citizenship should be punished then what about those who have sold piece by piece of our beautiful Goa for personal gains? Are the Freedom Fighters aware that the sale of Goa is still on? To understand common sense one needs basic sense but that sense is missing in some of us and that is the reason why people like Naguesh Karmali are making senseless statements. Proud to be a Goemkar.
