MAPUSA: Goa Police Sports Club got the better of United Club Telaulim 2-0 in the GFA’s First Division League played at Duler Stadium, here on Tuesday.
Goa Police now have six points while Telaulim have one point.
It was Goa Police who had the first crack at the rival goal when in the 11th minute Abdul Khan sent a pinpoint pass to Sachin Chopdekar whose powerful shot was kept away by the diving Telaulim custodian Ozen Silva.
Minutes later, Sclache Cardozo set up Mecklon Colaco inside the Goa Police danger zone, however the lad’s firm header missed the target by a whisker.
Telaulim’s Clinton Niasso found himself unlucky infront of the Goa Police goal, where in a span of a few minutes he saw his effort twice rebound off the Goa Police post.
Before the lemon break, Loyed Rebello made vicious run into the Telaulim danger zone and unleashed a power packed right footer which sailed inches over the goal.
Six minutes of crossing over Goa Police broke the deadlock when Swananand Naik rose above his marker to nod in Rajesh Salgaocar’s corner kick, 1-0.
In the 63rd minute of play, Rajesh Salgaocar pounced on a backpass by Telaulim defender Premson Fernandes, only to see his low grounder ricochet off the post.
Three minutes before the end of regulation time Goa Police made the issue safe for themselves when Milind Shinde on getting hold of the ball from Abdul Khan, ran into the Telaulim danger zone and sent in a blistering shot which had no answer from the rival keeper, 2-0.
