Toxic waste burning by the roadside at Comba

The self-styled auto mechanics flaunting boiler suits and plying their trade on the stretch of service road adjacent to the Mahila & Nutan English High School indiscriminately burn the cotton waste laced with rancid engine oil and discarded plastic material on completion of their day’s work.  This hazardous waste when burnt pervades the atmosphere with toxic fumes which are unwittingly inhaled by the residents of adjoining housing societies due to the presence of particulate matter suspended in the air which could pose respiratory issues to the young and elderly.

The whole surrounding atmosphere is surcharged with an obnoxious petrol smell and carbon monoxide effluents spewing from exhaust of vehicles and not to mention the blaring sound of horn repairs. Relocating the automobile mechanics from residential premises could also be considered given the recent freak explosion of an oxyacetylene gas cylinder in a housing complex.
