PONDA: Goa is facing acute water shortage in some places especially this summer season. The OPA water treatment plant is struggling to cope up with the supply for people’s daily consumption by managing to get water even from the mining pits and other sources for treatment.
While on one hand, the top officials of PWD water supply are appealing to the consumers to use this treated water judiciously, the staff working under it are not taking it seriously and thus lot of water got wasted at Kavlem after pipeline is broken for the past one and half month.
One can see the waste of this precious treated water which is draining in a nullah and despite several complaints to concerned PWD office at Daag Ponda the locals says the complaint falls on deaf ears.
The locals fear that in case of monsoon showers the rain water will enter the broken pipeline along with dirty gutter water and reach houses of locals which will be major health hazard for them. They demanded urgent action from PWD.
The locals said they complained to PWD month ago but the staff on duty were busy in election duty. However, as the elections are over the staff is available but the pipeline is not repaired, said locals, who feel sorry that on one hand they are facing water shortage but on the other hand the same water is not getting to them but is getting drained in gutters.
Officials at Daag Ponda gave various excuses for the delay and assured to take prompt action and rectify it within next 24 hours.
