VASCO: A 22-year-old youth from Pixe Dongre, Vasco, died, while five others were injured in a road accident near BITS Pilani, Sancoale, in the wee hours of Thursday.
According to Verna police, Aliston De Mello along with his friends, Anthony Rebello, Rohan Gaud, Joseph D’Souza, Patrick D’Souza and Uma Allai, were travelling in their car (GA-03-H-1654) when the car met with an accident. De Mello died on the spot, while Rebello and Gaud were shifted in a critical condition to GMC Hospital in Bambolim, where they are undergoing medical treatment.
Police further informed that Allai, Joseph and Patrick are out of danger. Allai was admitted in GMC Hospital, while Joseph and Patrick are admitted in a private hospital at Baina.
Police said as soon as the accident took place, Verna fire officials received a call stating that some people are trapped in a car. The fire officials rushed to the spot and as the car was completely damaged, they had to cut the car to remove De Mello and his other friends out of the car.
Police informed that the car rammed into a heavy vehicle from behind and police are in the process to ascertain the type of heavy vehicle it was, as when they reached the spot there were no other vehicles around except for the car.
The police added that after conducting the autopsy, De Mello’s body was handed over to his family members and Verna police is investigating the case.
