PANJIM: The draft Goa Start-up Policy, that focuses on promotion of IT start-ups and the concept of IT anywhere, will be placed before the State cabinet within a fortnight and is expected to be rolled out later this month.
Speaking to Herald, Information and Technology (IT) Minister Rohan Khaunte said the draft Start-up Policy has been finalised but due to the election code of conduct, which was in force for the by-elections, the policy could not be placed before the Cabinet for approval.
“Now, that the code has been lifted we will place the draft policy for Cabinet approval within the next 15 days. The policy will be rolled out this month,” he said.
The Minister said that the policy is going to be one of finest in the country and make Goa the most preferred destination for IT.
The policy, which has been drafted in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream Start-up India Movement, aims at creating 5,000 jobs in the IT sector over the next five years and will work towards putting Goa on the global start-up ecosystem map by 2025.
The draft policy also outlines the setting up of state of the art innovation and incubation centres across the State within the next couple of years that will provide mentorship to start-ups and innovators.
During the monsoon session of the Assembly last month, Khaunte had told the House of the government’s intention to promote Goan IT students as job providers rather than job seekers, by aiming to set up 100 start-ups in the next five years. He had said that 20,000 sq mtrs of land would be demarcated for the purpose in the IT Park, which is proposed to come up at Chimbel.
