MARGAO: Making an impassioned plea to Goans to unitedly face miscreants involved in desecrating places of worship, Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik on Monday took pot shots at Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and the Mandir Suraksha Samiti for their silence on the spate of desecrations.
“I agree with the government that police cannot protect every inch of land in the state. But the person ruling the state had never made any such mention when the previous Congress government was in power. Those who are in power today had made umpteen allegations against the previous government. They should realise today that it is not possible to protect each and every inch of land,” Naik told the media, after visiting the St Joseph Chapel at Banda along with Assolna Parish Priest Fr Lucio Dias, Congress General Secretary Altinho Gomes, Velim Block President Angel, Assolna Sarpanch Framila Almeida and others.
He called upon the people of Goa to unite and face the miscreants involved in desecration of places of worship, saying that no one should indulge in politics over desecrations. “This is the work of antisocial elements. In the last five years, there were so many incidents. We should not resort to blame game,” he said and questioned the whereabouts of the Mandir Suraksha Samiti. “Where is this samiti gone today? Were they only interested in protecting their places of worship? We should have committees that will look into the security of all places of worship?” he added.
