Govt may log on to Cyberage again?

The government seems to have taken cognizance of the negative reactions that have come from the opposition as well as from other quarters against the decision to discontinue with the Cyberage Scheme from the new financial year 2010-11. Sources said the state government is planning to set up a panel to study the issue, if required.
Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has said that the panel would try to find out whether students genuinely require the computers for their academic pursuit. The government has already decided to strengthen computer labs in the schools.
This is also being done as there were many complaints from parents and teachers of misuse of the computers for opening Internet sites which students less than 18 years old are forbidden from viewing.
The government’s contention for discontinuing the scheme is that around 75 percent houses in Goa have got computers through Cyberage.
Besides, laptops/desktops have been offered to teachers. If economically backward students still need computers from the government then it can be considered, the chief minister has said.
