MARGAO: Upholding the order of the Director of Panchayats disqualifying Carmelina Fernandes as a member of Benaulim panchayat, the District Court recently dismissed a revision application filed by Carmelina Fernandes in the matter.
According to the order of the Director of Panchayats, Carmelina Fernandes also stands banned from contesting elections to the panchayat for a period of five years.
In their petition filed before the Director of Panchayat by Jose Rodrigues and others of the Benaulim Civic and Consumer Forum, the applicants had contended that Carmelina Fernandes, during her tenure as Benaulim sarpanch had abetted illegality by issuing approval to M/s Triumph Reality Pvt. Ltd and had also faulted in the purchase of a Xerox machine.
