MAPUSA: In a fatal accident at Mapusa, two persons died on the spot, while one suffered injuries after the trio was hit by a tanker truck near Braganza Hotel in Mapusa on Thursday.
The victims have been identified as Seema Pednekar (37), her 4-year-old son and her father. The three are residents of Saligao and were proceeding towards Mapusa when they met with the accident.
The victims were commuting on a two-wheeler towards Mapusa, when an Ashok Leyland truck which was on PWD duty knocked down the Activa scooter killing the woman and her son on the spot. While her father suffered injuries.
A large number of people, who assembled at the spot, demanded that the police immediately arrest the driver who escaped from the site after the accident.
The victims were shifted to Goa Medical College Hospital (GMC) with the help of an ambulance. Mapusa police said that the driver drove the truck in a reckless manner which resulted in the accident. Police have apprehended the driver and further investigation is in progress.
An offence was registered later on Thursday evening against the driver of the truck at the Mapusa police station and he was booked under sections 337, 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 134 (A)(B) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
