Navdeep wins U-15 unrated chess

Navdeep Shirodkar of Bhatikar High School, Margao won the U-15 unrated All-Goa rapid chess tournament organised by Fischer Chess Academy, Margao in association with Goa Chess Association at conference hall, Nehru stadium, Fatorda recently.
In a pulsating encounter, Navdeep defeated Vinay Shetye of Vasco (7.5 points) in the last round garnering eight points and the title.
Sayani Kerkar of New Educational School, Curchorem finished third.
Nearly 130 players from Mapusa, Curchorem, Ponda, Vasco, Panjim and Canacona participated. The highlight of the tournament was that players with no FIDE rating participated.
Vithoba Dessai, president, All-Goa Teachers Association and president of Lions Club of Rawanfond was the chief guest. Earlier, Standrik Colaco of Fischer Chess Academy and current State chess champion welcomed. Ashesh Keni, president, Goa Chess Association and Kishore Bandekar, treasurer, Goa Chess Association alongwith Sanjay Kavlekar, SAG coach and chief arbiter were present.
Medals in the boys and girls U-7, U-9 and U-11 categories were awarded. Fischer Chess Academy students received medals while all participants were given certificates.
Following are the winners in the main category: Prabhugaonkar Aditee, Audi Amay, Dessai Rahul, Acharya Punarm, Bodke Sharmad, Verekar Disha, Bandekar Urvi, Nageshkar Sohan, Thakur Omkar, Morajkar Manthaj, Kochrekar Avinash and Aniket Naik.
Best U-7 girl and boy: Swera Braganza and Aryan Phaldessai. Best U-9 girl and boy: Pranali Dessai and Vaibhav Pednekar. Best U-11 girl and boy: Apoorva Naik and Anirudh Parsekar.
