PANJIM: The State government has introduced a scholarship in the name of former Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar for those willing to pursue post graduation or doctoral courses in India and abroad.

Under the “Manohar Parrikar Goa Scholars Scheme”, launched by Directorate of High Education, Rs 8 lakh would be provided to the candidate to pursue its higher studies in India or USD 25,000 for studies in abroad.
“Goa has a large student population in the group 18-25 years. To tap their potential and to optimize the demographic dividend, they need to be encouraged and empowered to take up post graduate/doctoral courses in reputed institutions in India and abroad. The qualification, skill and experience they gain shall contribute towards the building up human capital required by the State for its sustainable development,” the scheme mentioned.
“Therefore to give financial support for such talented brilliant students, present scheme has been framed and shall be implemented to achieve its objectives,” it added.
The scheme aims to promote pursuit of post-graduate and doctoral studies by talented younger population of Goa by recognising the meritorious and outstanding candidates by providing scholarship and to encourage the students for taking admission in India and abroad reputed institutions and to motivate them to take up cutting-edge research.
The scheme also aims to boost the efforts of the State in promoting quality education, research and innovation. Directorate of Higher Education will draft detail guidelines for the schemeand constitute a Screening Committee for short-listing of candidates as well as a Selection Committee for final selection.
