Once upon a time radio was the only source of information and entertainment. People switched on to the All India Radio for news. They waited eagerly for certain programmes broadcast by the AIR. The running commentary in the AIR on cricket used to be a craze. Almost every household had a radio, or a portable device called, transistor. Radio was the most versatile piece of technology that it was portable, could be battery-operated or plugged to an electric main. Then came the TV revolution. Initially there was only one TV channel in India. Now you have multiple channels and they telecast programmes and news round the clock. As a result, the radio disappeared from the living rooms of the people. Prime Minister Modi is known for innovative ideas. His decision to connect people through the radio transmission is a master stroke. Hope his initiative will revive the radio culture and give a boost to the industries that manufacture radios.
